Hi Everyone, it’s my turn to tell you all about myself!
Some of you will already know me from my time spent volunteering in Jak’s Den where I have loved spending my Friday afternoons with so many lovely children and their parents.
I have been married to my husband Raymund for 32 years and have 3 wonderful children – George (27), Kathryn (25) and Lucy (17). My son George was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia at age 12 in 2003 and underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant in 2004 with his sister Kathryn thankfully being his donor (Lucy was only 2 at the time)! I remember only too well, the worrying and difficult times from diagnosis and throughout treatment and recovery and the effect this has on all members of the family. We are very lucky that George is now a healthy, strapping 27 year old with a lovely girlfriend, job and house and he has also been able to successfully run two recent Edinburgh Marathons for charity 😁 I love being able to support others and to help put a smile on people’s faces. Working at Team Jak provides me the opportunity to do this and to hopefully help make a difference to children undergoing or recovering from treatment and also to understand the emotions of siblings and parents at different stages throughout this difficult journey and to help ease the burden in any way I can.
I also work at Heriot-Watt University where I have been for the past 22 years and I enjoy participating in community forums such as the Local Community Council and I have been a leader of Scouting and Guiding groups over the years.
I like to keep busy whilst also spending quality time with family and friends, planning and going on holidays and I have a gorgeous wee Bichon Frise dog called Buddy who I love to walk and who likes to follow me wherever I go!
